Almost a really, really bad day

Not once today was I able to make a vendeteria run with one of the usual (or any) crowd. I thought about maybe checking in with Sid (a soon to be poster on this blog - I think) but he looked like he just wasnt ready to commit. So each time I reached the point where my thirst could take it no more - I walked down the hall, head hanging low all the way to the v-room.

What made things worse was I couldnt even have meaningful vendeteria conversation - you know about all things of zero relevance to real people doing real things (ie, pop culture). That meant that I had to get my beverage and turn right back around and head back to my cube. What a crock! I mean why have a thing such as a vendeteria if you arent going to use it properly right?!

Well all was not lost as on my last trip of the day, HE was there. That's right folks - the vending machine refiller guy (technical term). The moment was eerily similar to that of the little girl in Adventures in Babysitting where she sees the auto mechanic but her infatuation with the Norse comic book hero Thor makes her think the grease monkey is the god himself. So I walked in the vendeteria and with eyes blinded by the fluorescent tubing present, I only caught a glimpse of this would-be office superhero - the vending machine refiller guy! I could only muster the courage to say 'hi'.

Busy with his office saving heroics, he was steadfast to his mission, did not acknowledge my presence and kept on stuffing every Big Texas, chip type things and candy he could into that machine. He worked his magic so well I failed to notice my drink overflowing and I didnt care once I did. While we rarely partake in consuming the goodness spewed forth from the mechanical innards of the vend, it always offers up some quality conversation. So while the day almost ended in disaster, once again I was saved by he who shall be named - vending machine refiller guy.

OK, here's my thought on the vending machine guy. Robbing him is worthless. (yes, my mind goes straight to criminal-like activities). You see, the power of the VMG isn't his goods, it's his access to the machine. All those Big Texases (is that the right pluarlity?), Honey Buns and Salsalitos (wait, that's a town in Calif.) are essentially worthless -- until they're entered into the machine.

Magically, their values then skyrocket some 100 percent. I can't think of anything that changes the value of a product as much as a simple machine with slots labeled A1 through K9.

I mean, I guess you could call New York one big vending machine. Because identical pastrami (mmm, pastrami) sandwiches would cost twice to three times as much up there as they would down here.

So while robbing, er meeting, the VMG is always a nice novelty (we'll have to get a pic with him, btw), I'm not impressed with you Cimi. Talk to me when you meet our martial-arts training janitor who lives somewhere below the building who's going to help me shed 15 pounds and hook up with Ben Stiller's wife.

Touche K but I believe I am officially the first person to ever link VMG to his real identity - Thor. So take that Marvel comics!
